Still can't compile from source

Okay...I've done my homework and have read everything possible on how to compile from source using Slackware. I have Slackware 9.1 with every library file (I think) there is possible to load. I have ldconfig'd and have read all the documentation from the package's source file. I have /.configure --help and have set many options but to no avail. This happens to any GNU source package, which by license, the user should only have to ./configure && make && make install. This never works for me though because I get a bunch of errors while it configures. Reading the INSTALL or README files in the packages help, but when I enter exactly what it says, I still get many errors. I would like to post a few on this thread, but don't know if I'm allowed to or not (as far as license goes). I've searched many threads on this issue but most tell you to read the packages INSTALL file or README file. If anyone has any help they can give me I really appreciate it.
