Steam dumps on fresh install of -current
 

Fresh install of -current 64bit

The 2nd to last posts in this thread indicates that it's an issue with compat32 libs, but I'm not sure what I'm missing.

well tell you the truth alien bob needs to sync his *-32-compats I can see right now mesa package is not in sync with current. there are a few others. I am sure Eric is working on that. I been converting my own. These will cause issues. as far as breakpad thats just a program that sends feed back to steam every time it crashes.
you will need propitiatory graphics cards and drivers to run steam. at least I do.
not much feed back from the startup if that was command line so I would guest it is not finding a major file.

I disabled nouveau for the nVidia driver :-/

That's good I just never tried with the open source driver always run proprietary for the gtx 960

You have a maxwell card, as I understand it nouveau doesn't yet support maxwell quite as well as the kepler card which I have.

I am maintaining a slackware64-compat32 directory as a courtesy. For the lazy people.
Do not expect that I keep this "compat32" directory tree up to date all the time. The script "massconvert32.sh" can do all the work for you in a snap.
I will make sure that the multilib gcc and glibc packages are always updated as soon as possible, the rest will be your responsibility if you want to stick to the bleeding edge. Come on, this is slackware-current... I won't do all the work for you.

I have to agree with Eric when running current you can't expect multilib to be in sync.
As long as the multilib gcc and glibc packages are up to date it's as easy to use massconvert32.sh as installing the packages made by Alien Bob.
Eric has already done all the work by writing massconvert32.sh i used it a lot and the -u option lets you pass an url.

With that said --- perhaps we can get back on track to helping me understand why Steam is crashing?

So give us more detail about how you disabled nouveau, AND how you installed the proprietary driver (did you also install the 32bit part and not jus the 64bit part), AND whether you installed a mesa and/or xorg-server package after that.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

I disabled the nouveau driver via the nVidia installer, as well as checking the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf file for the line 'blacklist nouveau'.

Yes, I did select the 32-bit libraries option in the installer.

No, I did not install any Mesa or Xorg packages outside of the traditional Slackware install process.
