I love the "snap feature". I am learning C#, for developing Windows Phone apps (omg people here gonna set me on fire - an act of faith) and I usually put some video tutorial in one side and Visual Studio in the other. It is great.

I do use MS Windows since my faculty requires us to use Visual Studio.

While I don't mind the recent shift toward the Modern UI, the rumors about a "Windows in the Cloud" thingy is not really my cup of tea.

If Windows is going to be a Cloud OS, then I will only run it in a VM in the future.

Being honest: I loved Visual Studio, it helps a lot especially for a begginer like me. I plan on developing mobile apps with a friend of mine, he is an IT student and his University has some kind of partnership with MS (I forgot the name of the program) and he gave me keys for Windows 8.1 and VS Studio 2013 :) We planned on starting with Android development but all the fragmentation and all the million different implementations and APIs was a no go for us. I didn't like Java either, found it a bit difficult to start. Visual Studio and C# was way easier to start (VisualStudio has a lot of features that automate a bunch of stuff, making it everything easier). So we gonna start with WP now and, if everything goes well, iOS later (too bad Apple only allow you to develop for them using a Mac :( )

A Cloud OS is not my cup of tea either.

It's not like Apple is a disease it's about tools for the job at hand. I like my Mac's and my Linux boxes equally but for different reasons.

I didn't say Apple is a disease. Actually, I get their point: Mac OS X is becoming more and more integrated (Yosemite is a further step on that direction) to iOS and to develop to its full potential you would need a Mac to grasp the full experience (the integration between both and between multiple Apple devices). The only bad thing is that they are a bit expensive for me :( But if everything goes as planned my first investment will be on a Macbook.

If you look at total cost of ownership they're not all that expensive.

Yeah sure, I've ran with the same Windows 7 (all the way from the leaked 6801 build) install for more than three years. I've been running Windows 8.1 for some time now and it is pretty stable.

MSDNAA; it is like selling the soul. The price is that the IT students are directed towards doing windows - there are almost no official courses about other OS's. Very often it is more rough than that: it is simply learning WS and tools provided by WS and nothing more. I was working at such place: everywhere is windows - laboratories, offices and other's i can't remember now. There is nothing really free WS can offer. About Apple I saw once iSlave: iphone and i-something and so ....Which means for me: pay, pay, pay... For the price of Apple here in Poland I can buy fast and furious PC with 2 panels and then I could play all on top PC-games.
