startx won't work


okay for some reason i can not run my x windows... i tried startx.. but it gave me a "bash - command not found" error message... wat could be wrong? i have run xwmconfig and chose a x windows already... any help? and i freshly installed slackware!!!!

Try startkde...

Strange though, startx starts normally on my box.

Did you get other error messages besides the one you wrote in first message? If so, post what they are!

i am pretty sure i haven't gotten any... it is weird cuz this is the first time i ever got this message also... startx always worked for me.. strange..

try locate startx (after running updatedb as root)

Could it be that it was deleted somehow?

try /usr/X11R6/bin/startx, if you can start X, then you should add /usr/X11R6/bin in path.

I had the same trouble
short-term remedy:
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/X11/bin
long-term remedy:
put a line in your .bashrc file (in your home directory, /home/(user name)/:
PATH=$PATH:/usr/X11/bin
