You have configured your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file already, but if you are still getting that message, you have not configured it right,
Try all of the configuration tools and see if you get better results with any of the. xorgsetup, xorgcnf, xorgconfig, and "X-configure". Are tehy all the same, or are they different? Does any of them work? The goal is to get X to start, then tweak the file to optimize your settings.
