OK i just installed slackware 8.1 and when i finished i booted up logged in and tried to start the xwindows using the command startx.... all i got was and "bash: startx: command not found"
everything else works great... i love the command prompt so it's not a big deal... i just kinda wanna get into KDE or GNOME or something....
Sure you installed X? startx on my slack box is in /usr/X11R6/bin/statx, see if the program exists. If so, try either adding it to your PATH or launching with the absolute path, if not make sure it was installed.
There is no such command on my system called xf86config ?!?!?!? Any other sugguestions.... Maybe I didn't install it during the setup... should i just install it off the cd??
type in #pkgtool
as root with slackware CD in the drive
You will get a menu. Follow the menu and tick disk x for X-server and disk XAP for X related applications. Hope this help.
