Starting in runlevel 4 + nvidia question.
 

Hihoo! When starting in runlevel 4 (gdm) + nvidia drivers, users can't use 3d (Error: Could not open /dev/nvidiactl because the permissions are too resticitive. Please see the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS section of /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README for steps to correct.). I followed the FAQ, but no way... I've tried some working fat pig tricks, but i prefer to follow a pure geek holy way. What should i do please?

well the permissions on my /dev/nvidiactl are 660
and users have no problem accessing/using 3D .........
so what are you trying to do........???

I've just discovered that the /dev/nvidia* are already added in a group named video...
Mmm... What command must i run to add myself in this group?

I used to add username by hand in /etc/group at the corresponding line, I don't know a quicker way though.

I just read man usermod, but I will continue to edit /etc/group by hand to add group for an user, it seems that when you want to add a group with usermod and -G switch, you have to indicate the full list of groups which username belong to, if not username will be removed from non-indicated groups.

What did u do? Im stuk, I have to set the 777 permissions for the nvidia stuff, and I dont know what u guys are talking about.

RHLinuxGUY, you edit the /etc/group file and add to the end of the
video:...............:
line the users you want to be able to use the nvidia video. Then you don't have to make the nvidia stuff 777, which is a (slight) security breech.
