If you are using ssh at all... you may need to give the -X option when connecting.

ssh -X hostYouWantToConnectTo

yeah sorry if my post is not coherent. i use ssh to logon into our school computers. to hand in an assignment you have to be on the school computers. you have to hand in your assignment through a web based system. i want to be able to start a mozilla browser through ssh on my school computers from home. i used to do this with red hat 9.0. so i know it can be done. so my question is how do i do it in slackware 9.0.

More ssh options

I would heartily recommend using the arcfour encryption and turning on compression when running X over ssh. This speeds things up quite a bit.

My ~/.ssh/ssh_config looks like this:

Code:
Host *
  ForwardX11 yes
  Cipher arcfour,blowfish
  Compression yes
You can of course also specify these options on the command line.

also.. before you run ssh run this command on the machine you are working on.

xhosts + (or it is xhost +)

then connect to SSH... then run

export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0

do the above.. and the rest of the suggestions in this post.. then you should be good to go.
