StarCraft & Broodwars on Slackware 10.2

*Added nocd crack

Hi, this is a work in progress and it's not on tutorials section yet because i think it still needs some editing and improvements

StarCraft & Broodwars on Slackware 10.2
This is the way it works for me, you need a working wine install, soundcard and video drivers (all
that not covered here) your StarCraft or Broodwars cds with cd key and optional, but recommended, the latest patch from www.blizzard.com (1.13f as of this writing).
* install wine from http://winehq.com/site/download i got Adam Schreiber's package
* i suggest you edit /etc/group and look for the line cdrom::19 and add your username, in my case:
cdrom::19:mannyslack
* mount your starcraft cdrom, cd /mnt/cdrom/ you will find setup.exe* there
* as you (NOT root) issue: wine setup.exe and install it as you would in windows and exit install
* Do the same for broodwars
* now you are ready for the patch, just type wine bw-113f.exe or whatever it's called (Not as root)
* wanna play? mount your cdrom, cd to /home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Starcraft and type
wine starcraft.exe (Not as root, again) (KDE may have it under wine menu)

I haven't tested it on battlenet but i don't believe it would work, who knows
I can't possibly know how many errors or issues you may have, depending on many things, it works for me with a soundblaster live! Nvidia Fx5200 and microsoft usb mouse and it runs just like in XP, i
can't tell the difference

nocd crack

First of all, if i'm breaking the rules of this forum i apologize and will gladly edit/remove this part.
This is here because i don't enjoy having to load a cd everytime i want to play a game, that's why i like Id Software and specially John Carmack for linux support, blizzard dissapoints me with their ignoring of linux users.
There are many places out there where you can get a nocd crack, however not everyone works and it's a hit or miss to find one that works, so you are free to google, visit this silly page http://www.freewebs.com/quake0r1/ and scroll to the files in the bottom or pm me (last option).
ok, here we go:
* You don't need to be root for anything except maybe for mounting your cdrom
* StarCraft.Brood.Wars.All.Versions.zip has worked for me trough many versions of official broodwars patches from blizzard, make sure you install the official patch BEFORE installing the nocd crack
* It contains 3 files: ReadMe.txt, StarCD.reg, scbw0_111.exe
* copy scbw0_111.exe to your starcraft folder (/home/YOURUSERNAME/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Starcraft)
* Copy install.exe (about 600mb) from your broodwars or starcraft cd to your starcraft folder (/home/YOURUSERNAME/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Starcraft) (NOTE: if you only want to play broodwars copy install.exe from the broodwars cd, i have both install.exe from starcraft and broodwars, i only rename them depending which i want to play, BWinstall.exe or SCinstall.exe gets renamed to install.exe)
* Copy StarCD.reg to /home/YOURUSERNAME/.wine/drive_c/windows
* run wine regedit.exe from that dir (/home/YOURUSERNAME/.wine/drive_c/windows)
* import StarCD.reg (with regedit.exe)
* To play you have to run wine scbw0_111.exe (from /home/YOURUSERNAME/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Starcraft)
* I hope i'm not missing anything, will check later again and i also hope you enjoy playing Starcraft on Slackware without having to load a cd
Any comments?

Some days later...

Bnet don't work. But it used to two years ago. I didn't played much because mouse support was too bad, and crafter knows how important the mouse is .
Now mouse support is near perfection.

Thanks for the guide. I installed StarCraft using this and it works in single player mode, but Bnet's screen is all black. Anyway of fixing this?

Also, any no-cd crack guide coming soon?

Using warez is not a good idea, even under wine, because wine got vulnerabilities.

I agree, however i'm using a nocd loader.
I can't understand why blizzard insists you have to insert a cd to play a game from 1997 (maybe inacurate)
Idsoftware > blizzard on this and linux support.
