It won't "save" truecrypt, but it's just one more of this kind of app that we have to choose from. Instead of being stuck with (just for example) 3 kinds of disk encryption software, we could have 4. Besides, the *nix users don't seem to have the same amount of choices that 'doze users have, so even if it's not cross-platform it's still good for at least one set group of users. Choice is Good

Besides, the majority of Windoze users are (just the everyday 'Joe' who surfs the 'net and e-mails etc), for the most part, willing to separate their wallets from any green inside them without too much thought about anything else because in the Windoze-centric world they're not exposed to that which most Linux and BSD and *nix users are. I was there from Win3.1 through W2K, then in 2000 when I switched over to Linux from absolute and pure frustration and anger, I repaired peoples' systems for two more years until the disgust with how most of them shouldn't have a computer in the first place got me so sick I quit doing that and haven't sat at a windoze computer since.

Not that *nix users *don't* spend money on apps, but I could say we're a good deal more frugal and more careful about the choices we make *and* I personally feel it's nice to see a new (or old) app come out and the dev(s) *want* it to be used by the masses *because* it's not just free but good for them in some way and liberating.

I'm not very good at explaining things as well as I'd like, with severe ADD I get to typing and being a two-finger typist the thoughts run through my head I want to put down but my fingers don't keep up and next thing I know I'm talking about a polar bear I saw in a movie or something, but I hope I got the gist of what I'm trying to say down.

What formats does it save and can I open those formats on Android and Windows?

So far as I can tell it'll save/open as truecrypt 4 through 7, or scramdisk and can work all kinds of file systems.

http://sd4l.sourceforge.net/ and read up on it. I don't think it'll work on Android, but might still work on Windoze.

I have an Android app (EDS/ EDS Lite) which will open TrueCrypt volumes if you use certain criteria. So as long as I can find a Linux app and Android app that will support the same type of encrypted column I'm good.

My aim is to give the best user experience while managing encrypted volumes and hence i have tried my best to make it secure,reliable,stable and user friendly.A comment or two will be appreciated if anything is seen as lacking and i will do my best to address them.

The project can create and open TrueCrypt volumes.A git version will have to be used to open a TrueCrypt volumes that uses a passphrase together with one or more keyfiles as this functionality was added after the last release was made.

I think its important to make a distinction between TrueCrypt,the binary application and TrueCrypt,the on-disk encrypted format.

The format is well known and tcplay can create it allowing creation of TrueCrypt volumes and cryptsetup and tcplay can parse it allowing opening of TrueCrypt volumes.

With the above in mind.I do not think forking TrueCrypt,the binary is necessary. I do think more project should support this encrypted file format as a "cross platform encrypted file format".

Regarding the end of TrueCrypt. I favor they got tired and quit theory.

I just spent some time reading and decided I am not all the worried. I plan to continue to use TrueCrypt as it meets my needs (container file). Based on the audit report from the Open Crypto Audit Project I see nothing to worry about. I also note that there are two projects that have started up looking to fork

I am not in to full disk encryption and see it a unnecessary overkill for my home computers.

Member of the CipherShed innitiative here. That is exactly what the team is hoping for. The plan is to release a rebranded version with basic bug- and security-fixes asap (somewhen in Summer). Hopefully this can keep the TC community together and avoid scattering around many little 'forks'.
