sound with noise after upgrade to KDE3.2.2

Upgraded to KDE 3.2.2 and xfree4.4 at runlevel 3.
moved .kde to kde.old, ran alsaconf, followed by startx.
Sound was OK except for a background noise, which could be stopped with alsactl restore.

During boot ALSA Mixer settings and OSS compatibility modules for ALSA are loaded.
However in X I still get the noise and have to stop that with alsactl restore.
.xsession-errors tells me: kmixctrl: ERROR: Alsa-mixer not found.
Anybody any idea?

Problem solved

Entering missing kmixctrlrc and kmixrc in ~/.kde/share/config solved the problem
Have no idea why these files did not exist.

I have also found that sometimes AUX imputs are not muted in KMIX, resulting in a hissing noise when X is loaded.

I was also having problems with my sound on my system with the default kernel and alsa drivers. I recompiled my kernel for my system and also the also drivers with -mcpu=athlon and everything works like a charm. Try re-compiling the alsa drivers and see if that changes any on your computer.
