Question Sound question???

I am trying to find a good driver for my sound card. I was looking at the modules in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules , and I did not see any good modules for my sound card. I went to look in the kernel, and I saw what looked to be a good match in there, which was sound for Intel 810 motherboards (I believe it was refered to CONFIG_SOUND_ICH). Instead of recompiling my kernel, I just wanted to load the Module, and see if that would make my sound work, HOWEVER, I could not find a module anywhere for it. Also now that I recompiled my kernel, I am getting a list of unresolved symbols. I saw some other threads that suggested deleting /lib/modules/2.4.18, then running make modules_install, but that didn't work... So any help would be appreciated!!!

Please bear with me - I am a

What is your sound card?
The contents of /proc/pci might help you identify a suitable module.

There are a couple of obvious possible modules, neither of which I have compiled on my system so I can't say what they are called. There are listed in the kernel help as:

Crystal SoundFusion (CS4280/461x) & Crystal Sound CS4281

I still think that reading /proc/pci will give you the best clues as to what you need.

However if you have deleted /lib/modules/2.4.18 and don't have a compiled kernel source tree, you may find that you have deleted your modules and have to reinstall a kernel package or recompile anyway.
