sound problems -- Knotify

Hello,

when I start kde I get a warning stating:

'KNotify crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEV)'

The sound has not been working since I updated KDE from 3.1 to 3.2. After upgrading alsa using swaret I am now able to listen to cds but all system alarms still do not work. Sound worked perfectly before I upgraded. The only thing I can think of is that I did not upgrade/install some dependancy for kde3.2, does anyone have any ideas?

I tried using alsaconf but the system does not recognise this command, leading me to believe that alsa is not properly installed.

I ran lspci -v and recieved this for my sound card:

00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 12)
Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 010e
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10
I/O ports at c800 [size=256]
I/O ports at cc40 [size=64]

If anyone could help it'd be appreciated.

If you get noise by other means than KDE
tools ...

Well, you should check whether arts is running.

Cheers,
Tink

When you upgraded did you also upgrade the arts package to 1.2.0?

Cheers

I hadn't upgraded the arts package yet. I have done so now and sound is working perfectly. Thanks for the help.
