Sound Problems


i am having a little bit of trouble to get the sound to come out. it reads my cd no prob and even plays the cd but no sound, i configured alsamixer and fixed the volumes but still nothing. tried it in kde and gnome, nothing. its so very frustrating!!

Plz,

1. do "alsaconf" and post if it detects the card
2. post the results of "lsmod"

i 've the same problem.. though i didnt configured alsamixer yet..
how do u do that? where is it ?
i dont know if this would help u.. but.. after i configured alsaconf. it told me to configured my sound using alsamixer or gramix. did u tried this last one?

Is the problem only with CD's? Can you hear other system sounds?

if YES - check that the cable CD>soundcard is present (Not sure linux cd player uses digital extraction). Make sure CD channel on the mixer is unmuted.

If No, do:
any_file > /dev/dsp

Clarify: did alsaconf detect your card?
tell if you hear noises.

then:
aplay some_mp3_file
