sound problem with Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

I get this error window when I log into KDE:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

I have a Santa Cruz sound card by turtle beach, as well as the onboard AC'97 chip(which I would rather not use if I didn't have to). I set the permissions on /dev/dsp* and /dev/mixer* to 666, so the perms should be ok.

Has anyone had this problem before, or know how to fix it?

Thanks

If you haven't loaded the sound module then you might try

modprobe cs46xx

If that produces some errors and fails to load then you should have a look at http://www.alsa-project.org. They appear to list the card as supported.

Thanks, that worked.

I added this to rc.modules:
/sbin/modprobe cs46xx

So that Santa Cruz sound card works pretty good with Linux? And you are using Slackware distro?

I have one of those cards but neva have installed it. I may give it a try now that I know it works!
