Sound problem in GSB

I installed Gnome Slack Build because I just didn't like KDE.

However, with Gnome I can't hear anything. I've ran alsaconf a few times without prevail.

I did uninstall most of the KDE packages, but I don't know why that'd make any difference.

If I try to adjust the volume, I get an error that reads "Cannot connect to sound daemon" or some such. It also suggests running esb, but I have no idea what that is.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind. I've already solved the problem myself.

Then why don't you post the solution so others don't have to figure it out as well? That would be the purpose to these forums....
