Sound has disappeared. There one minute gone the next.

Late last night I installed the 2.6.18 kernel and modules (Slackware 11) and all was well. Everthing was supported and the sound was working fine.
However, early this morning I was using alsamixer and somehow managed to turn off my sound. The card is recognized, but no sound. Anyone know how to get the sound back on? I've ran alsaconf and alsactl restore time and time again, but nothing seems to help.
I tried re-setting the defaults from within KDE and that didn't help. However, upon starting KDE I hear a second of sound and then it stops, not to be hear from again until the next "startx."
Is there anyway to reset the defaults and start from scratch? :Pengy:
Thank you very much.
Oh, while I'm here :D Are the xVid codecs available for Slackware 11? I haven't been able to find any.
Thanks, again.

Maybe you accidentally muted some channel or changed the setting of a switch like digital/analog. Since this happened while you were playing with the mixer, it must be the settings. Just play a little more, hopefully you'll undo the change ;).

You can download a slackbuild for xvid from SlackBuilds.org that will allow you to roll your own package. You will currently find it in the repository under multimedia.

Many thanks Ligar and MagicMan!
Finally I started a mp3s, brought up th alsamixer and started turning on and off switches until the sound came back on.
Turning on the "Line Jack Sense" on, kills the output. Makes sense, I guess.
Goes to show how little I know.
:D
MagicMan, I'll take a trip over to slackbuilds.org and take a look around.
Thanks, again!
