Sound and vncserver

I'm using vncserver to login/mess with my Slack machines. Everything is working fine, except sound.

The host machine is making sounds, but not the client machine. (ie: I get an instant message on the host, the 'gui' part of the message shows on the client machine, but no sound)

How do I get sound working?

Standard Slack 10.2 install on both, w/kernel 2.6.13 on client, 2.6.15 on host, running tightvnc 1.2.9 and KDE frontend on both

vnc does not do sound neither does x11 forwarding. you can forward the sound with a network sound server such as esd.

Edit:
I notice you use kde. I think that arts the default soundserver for kde does network sound but I'm not sure how to use it as I don't use kde.

Yes. I use KDE....

And "Networked Sound is enabled in the "Control Center >> Sound System" applet.

Any ideas from anybody?
