Some Questions about Slack 10

Hi Guys, I recently Installed the new Slack 10 on a Pavillion zv5000, but I would like some help on some questions that I have.

1.- On my lilo boot screen I see the red splash too large, I mean my screen it's 15.4" and the boot splash appears too large. How can I diminish it?

2.- I added to xorg.conf a new resolution as 1280x800 but it doesn't take effect when I restart X. What could be the problem?

3.- Someone has experience installing the ATI Radeon 9000 IGP drivers? I really would like some help or tips about it.

Thanks in advance.

1. You were prompted at what resolution you wanted the console when you installed Slack. But you can edit the lilo.conf and change it. I think thats what you are looking for.

2. If you are still using the vesa driver you may be limited to 1024x768. I could be wrong though. You will also have to setup the Refresh rates for your monitor in the xorg.conf file.

3. Don't know myself. I'm an nvidia man...

I changed the console resolution editing the lilo.conf and I edited vga line like vga = 791, but all that got was 800x600 or less.

About the 2 question, Yes I'm still using vesa driver, but how can be the Refresh rates in my monitor?

Thanks for your reply.

In the xorg.conf file, the monitor section contains to lines you would need to change to match your monitor.

HorizSync
and
VertRefresh

These have to match your monitor. You can damage your monitor if you set them our of range and run X.

Thanks again. I was looking for my HorizSync and VertRefresh for my zv5000 (zv5257LA) and I found the below link, but I'm not pretty sure to set as

HorizSync 31.5 - 100.0
VertRefresh 30.0 - 100.0

http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19963

cause you scared me that I can damage my monitor, I bought the notebook yesterday my currently config is:

HorizSync 31.5 - 50.0
VertRefresh 40-90

What do you suggest me?

Thanks...

at a terminal run:

xorgconfig

this will let you setup all the details of your monitor, and graphics card, including your H and V refresh rates.
