Some apps kill xorg, with XFCE compositing 'on'

Hi guys, having a few issues since the 12.1 upgrade.

With XFCE compositing set to on, some apps kill xorg server. I've confirmed it in 'kgeography' and maple in classic worksheet (old style) mode.. Turn compositing off and they run fine.

They worked fine in slack 12.0, I've tried upgrading to the latest nvidia driver and the beta nvidia driver to no avail.

Here is the sort of error I get spat out:
Code:

Here is my xorg.conf just in case: http://pastebin.org/35271

Any ideas? Bit of a weird problem and I see no common thread with the apps that kill xorg.

Thanks in advance :D

Found that running the compiz compositor doesn't have the crashes, so unless I find a better way, I'll be doing this instead..

*Bump*

Any ideas guys? Obviously would rather not need to run the compiz compositor...

It's quite possibly a bug in Xfce's compositor (I'd guess that's *exactly* what it is); drop a mail on xfce-dev at xfce.org (the -devel mailing list) and see if anyone has any ideas. Alternatively, file a bug first and then link the bug in the mailing list report (that's actually a better idea).

Thanks very much rworkman, will do so :)

As an addition, I just spoke to some people in #xfce.

Apparently they think it's an xorg or driver problem. Apparently xfwm4 uses xrender for compositing whilst compiz uses opengl, which could explain the difference..

Edit: For reference to anyone reading this, here is the bug report: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15938
