N.B.

This feature does not work with ubuntu unity, ( I am just so fed up with ubuntu breaking stuff all the time ), but works fine with KDE, LXDE, Xfce, Mint gnome.

How to make black screen transparent?

You must be running a composite manager to get the full effects of the transparency, if you don't run a composite manager use the -no-usewindow option but you will not have snow settling on windows or the bottom of the screen.
