sndconfig worked under VecLin - alsaconf doesn't under Slack
I finally got a linux to install on my laptop - however, I despised VL, no offence, just not my cup of tea. It ran 'sndconfig' to set up the sound, I am fairly clueless as to what the sound card is on this laptop, so I just hit SB16 - to my suprise the sound played.
Then I got rid of VL and after some struggling downloaded the slackware packages and installed from there.
However, alsaconf doesn't recognised the card, I left it probing for all legacy cards etc and it comes back with nothing.
The laptop is a:
HiNote VP (Model number TS30G) and after googling, I don't know what the sound card is. I do now know that the video card is a Neomagic - nice generic drivers mean at least I can look at X in 800X600X24 - much better than standard VGA.

# insmod snd-sb16
Using /lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/sound/isa/sb/snd-sb16.o.gz
/lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/sound/isa/sb/snd-sb16.o.gz: unresolved symbol pnp_register_card_driver....(and more like errors)
In the end, I tried downloading sndconfig - however when run, I get:
'Error: No Sound Modules found ... soundcore.o was not found in module search path" - I haven't recompiled my kernel (yet) - I thought the slackware kernel was modular.
Any help? I don't particularly want to install VL again, just to find out what modules it was loading - I don't mind running sndconfig if I can convince it that I have soundcore.o
Cheers for reading :)
