Smb mount problem
This is somewhat embarrassing. I have been using Samba and smbmount
for some time now in order to access Win2K shares from a Linux system. I used to use ICS with 2 NIC's on the Win2k machine to provide connections to the Linux box for file sharing and Inet access. I recently switched to a Linksys router which provides all my Inet connectivity and file sharing. I haven't changed the Samba setup since it should work with a router as it did the previous configuration. However, I now cannot mount the Win2k shares using smbmount; I get Code:
1237: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.) in smb.conf Code:
null passwords = yes passwords are allowed. However, I cannot figure out whay this unaltered setup will not work now; the only change is utilization of a router. BTW: Internet connectivity works just fine and I can see the Linux shares in Network Neighborhood. Can anyone help me out here? |
i have only used samba a bit but try these:
1. if you changed ip address when you changed to a router, check the win2k firewall (if you have one). 2. i think you still need to specify the win2k userid & password when connecting from linux to win2k. i think the smb.conf userid and password is only for connection from win2k to linux. hope this helps. |
I never liked smbmount. Nothing but hassles. Here's how I do it...
Code:
mount -t smbfs -ousername=<your_domain_user> //<ip_of_server/<share> /mnt/point |
Tried Slum's mount technique and ran into the same problem.
Had to be a firewall problem so I checked the logs. Port 445 was beng blocked for some reason. Must be an innate part of the firewall setup. I configured a specific rule to allow 445 access on the LAN. Everything works as before. Don't quite understand this since I had no rule specifically allowing Port 445 before. In fact I had one blocking 445 access from the internet. I apparently don't understand my firewall setup as well as I thought. While the Win2k system seems to be using the older NetBIOS ports 137,138,139, the Samba server seems to be a little newer using Port 445. One of these days maybe I'll have a better understanding of all this. Thanks for your help. |
