Slower linux after upgrading to slack10
Since I upgraded my Slack9.1 into Slack10.0 my Linux is got slower!! :(
Is this already know problem? Looks like KDE3.2 is the evil part in this problem. I will show you a part of my `top`: Code:
Tasks: 100 total, 1 running, 98 sleeping, 0 stopped, 1 zombie And don't think that's cause of konqueror, if I close it the X is still high doesn't matter what I start This is some system information Hostname: AliTriX OS: Linux 2.6.7/i686 CPU: Pentium III (Katmai), 501.423MHz Processes: 101 Uptime: 2 Days, 2 Hours, 28 Minutes Load Average: 2.43 Memory Usage: 152.21mb/191.86mb (79.33%) Disk Usage: 196.64gb/226.12gb (86.96%) Hope you people can help me |
Here is a top where konqueror isn't started and I killed kdeinit (since I use fluxbox anyway)
Code:
top - 13:57:37 up 2 days, 2:42, 2 users, load average: 1.05, 1.45, 1.87 I never use KDE, only gdm to login and go to fluxbox |
I would try a telinit 3, startx, then top too see if the values are the same for %CPU usage field for X
|
Yeah, I was thikning of that
If that's oke, then I will do it like this next time :) |
Yeah, it became a bit faster
But there are still running too much k* apps :( Are these necassry? |
the k in those apps proble means kernel not kde. Also, you might wanna add an extra 128 MB of RAM or try a kernel patchset against the vanilla sources from kernel.org to improve proformance. I maintain a patchset which is a combo of security features, bug fixs/stablity fixs and proformance patchs. Although it only just got started its been very stable on my slack 10 box and i'm working on a second release intented to reduce latency in the kernel. Also, X being on top shoulden't be that much of a prob.
btw, for my patchset vist http://www.dcaf-security.org/skpatch.php ~predatorfreak Edit: almost forgot, all of those k progs look very system depend (as in the system would screw up without them). |
