Slowed down Internet: the final solution.

Hi:

For the benefit of people who are having this issue, I refer to this thread. My internet connection had noticeable slowed down. Many posts back and forth. But I remembered the advise given by an LQer: try to remember what you did before the issue. What I did is to install a lot of services last time I installed 12.0:

rc.bind       BIND (Domain Name Server) server
rc.dnsmasq    dnsmasq DHCP/DNS server
rc.inetd      The BSD Inetd daemon
rc.ip_forward Activate IP packet forwarding

The cue to the puzzle I got it when looking at /var/log/messages. I did not like its look. Then, I booted with the first instalation disk, ran 'setup', and deactivated the quoted services. And ... all's well that ends well.

You can also enable/disable services with pkgtool. No need to boot an install disk.

Or just chmod -x in /etc/rc.d/rc.FOO
