Angry SLK 10.2 k 2.6.13 lucent modem problem

Hi all

I have recently installed slk 10.2 on my old laptop compaq presario 1825 that comes with a build in winmodem. The modem is a Lucent one that so far worked with many distros slk suse ubuntu mandriva etc. So I had great expectations. After installing SLK i have changed to the kernel that came on the second cd linux 2.6.13. Then I compiled the lt modem driver (ltmodem-8.31b1) without any error message.
But when I try to acces modem (ppp-go or via gnome-ppp) i get the following error message
Failed to open /dev/modem: No such device or address

Even though i have /dev/modem pointing to /dev/ttyLTM0

Any idea how to make it work?

You may have to install kernel source code in stx in order to compile the modem module. Alternatively you can do a minimal Slackware install and compile the window manager the comes with stx.

After spending alot of time installing source code so I could compile a wireless driver in zenwalk (another slackware derivative) the file system became corrupt and I was unable to repair it. The second time around I installed a minimal Slackware 10.2 install and compiled my own XFCE desktop and it has been running great on my Via C3 powered laptop

STX uses the EDE desktop
