slax 5.1.8 on USB - cannot use copy2ram

Hi.

I have installed slax 5.1.8 to a USB flash drive.

When the system boots, I do not get any time delay in which to type 'slax copy2ram' as I do when booting directly from the CD.

I have tried holding down a key to try sending a character via the keyboard repeat function, as this approach solved the same problem with an earlier version of slax, but this no longer seems to work.

Is there a way in which I can invoke a splash screen delay to emulate the operation of the CD and allow me to pass parameters to the kernel on boot?

Any help much appreciated!

Mike.

I have slax popcorn and the standard edition on my hard disks. I use the dos prompt and linux.bat, to start them (pressing F8 before Windows starts).
The config file in /boot/dos will take the extra arguements on the first line, after ../vmlinuz.
Just add the necessary terms WITHOUT the word slax.

For example:
../vmlinuz changes=/dev/hda1/slaxsave.dat

Add a "from=/dev/....." line at the end of config to tell it where your directory is.

"copy2ram" is probably not necessary, as I find that slax runs entirely in memory anyway (256Mb RAM), even with a dozen extra modules. I have made a swapfile but as far as I can tell it never gets used.

It works amazingly well - I'm using it to post this!

If you are concerned about the lifetime of your Flash drive, mount / read-only.
