I have used slapt-get on my system for years. There really isn't much to say, it is simply a wrapper for the normal pkgtools that allows syncing up with remote package trees over HTTP/FTP. There is good support for dependency tracking/resolution, but only if the packages have the correct meta data included, and very few do (and none of the official packages do or ever will).
