Slakcware @ 640x480???
 

hey again.

i need some help.... i got my Slackware goin after hours of playing with it... i looks really nice. however i it will only stay @ 640x480 and i cant find a way to change it...

luke do you have trouble with shell, after leaving X?
like your display is showing prompt is 1 line behind ?

I have no clue what sirpelidor is asking, but you need to post more about your system.

Basically, what graphics card are you using and what driver?

What windows manager are you using, KDE, Gnone, WindowMaker, etc., where it stays at 640x480?

Have you looked at/modified your XF86Config file?

rerun the xf86config, do it slowly, u will be ok. Prepared your vga card and monitor information beforehand though. For monitor it is the vsync and hsync range, max supportable resolution. VGA will be the chipsets(ATI/ Nvidia/S3/) & memory of the card. There is no back button in xf86config, so if u missed one step, u have to redo it from the beginning.:(

btw, the 640x480 thingy could be due to the limitation of your hw, like an old monitor and old vga card. My 2 yrs old Philips 17" and a Nvidia FX5200 run fine in X. And I default it to 1024X768. Cheers.
