slackware9.1 fuzzy graphics
 

Hi,

Just installed slackware 9.1 onto an old pc i have with a geforce4 ti4200 as the display card, all the settings in xfree config are correct for the card and monitor (res's and refresh rates) however when i start x i get a very fuzzy display..

i think theres a slight shadow effect behind all text graphics icons and everything, however it isnf a nice shadow, its too fasr from the object to look good and just makes the whole screen look blurred and very bad, its starting to hurt my eyes reading the small text like this now, so i'd like to try and fix it.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great,

I had a simillar problem with an old ATI card. It might not seem logic, but i upgraded to XFree86 version 4.40 and now I'm looking at a nice stable screen.

ok thanks ill give that a try, thing is i used to use slack 9.1 on my other nvidia ti4200 and it was fine, im not sure why the difference..

could it be a problem with the monitor? bad monitor? Or is the video card shot? I have an old card which is fried now because the fan crapped out on it. It's an nVidia NV10 GeForce 256SDR. When I use any gui, there are lines from the tops and bottoms of the window that stretch across the screen. I just wish it weren't fried, because although it's only SDR, 256 is still a very nice number, even if the card is 3 years old, it beats my 16MB Riva TNT2 that's 5, maybe 6 years old now, and I bet it beats my ATI Rage 128 w/ 16MB....
