Slackware64: working voice chat alternative to skype?
Dear Slackers,
After skype stopped working for Slackware64, I am on the search for a working
voice chat alternative. I tried Ekiga, but it requires some fiddling with the router settings, which I do not want to do. linphone requires to many dependencies, I do not even consider trying it. Kopete does not support voice calls. I tried logging in Pidgin
with for Gtalk, but it always makes my account XMMP, and cannot log me in which is really annoying. So I resorted to online options for voice chat.
Has anyone been successful at finding some reasonable voice chat alternative for Slackware64 without making it multilib, be it also online?

Several have been listed in this thread lately.
Of course you'll have to agree on the alternative with your correspondents.

If you don't mind installing a blob there is Teamspeak. Made for gaming really, but works really well as voice chat.

Yeah, :-(
I mentioned in another thread I was happy with the few dependencies I had to install with linphone-3.6.1 from slackbuilds.org, well, linphone 3.7 comes with a hundred, including the annoying devel jdk (136MB monster) that forces you to use the browser to download it (you have to agree with oracle licence).

Just use the Slackware script in /extra to create a Slackware JDK package of the Oracle binaries. Or install my OpenJDK package. No need to visit Oracle, plus the package integrates Java neatly into your system (with a profile script etc).

OK. Thanks. But in this cases, when the application starts to insanely grow, I prefer to discard it. And if there is no alternative I prefer to not have video conference in my laptop. Not a big pain :-).

Mumble is not bad, at least it did worked well for me some time ago. There is a mumble SlackBuild for an easy install. Has only a few dependencies.

I tried jitsi yesterday, didn't like it much. Chat with encryption is something I could have with Pidgin/OTR combination, without having to install JDK. Also, jitsy voice call quality was not satisfying at all. There was too much noise and choppy voice problems.

For sure, skype is still the best quality out there, all other tried by me up to today was not satisfying at all, speaking about voice quality. I tried www.goober.com and www.brosix.com also , but voice is still crappy.
