Slackware64 RC 1 and VLC 1.1.0-pre3.
Just finished installing all the latest "upgrades" for Slackware64, 13.1, Release Candidate 1, and the video in
Alien Bob's pre-release package of VLC 1.1.0-pre3 has
disappeared. The audio is good, but no video.
Is there a fix?
Thanks.
I checked vlc-1.1.o-pre3 running on Slackware64 13.1.rc1 and could watch videos of several encodings. So, the VLC package is OK. However I did my tests remotely (not sitting directly behind the monitor but using a FreeNX session) and without hardware acceleration.
Did you forget to re-install a binary (nvidia/ati) video driver after upgrading your kernel?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I'm using the xorg radeon driver, but just re-installed it just in case. Still no video with VLC.
However, MPlayer, Kaffeine, and, of course, Xine all work.
Would it have anything to do with this change from the 14 May changelog:
Quote:
l/v4l-utils-0.8.0-x86_64-1.txz: Added. This replaces the libv4l package.
I added the bold highlight.

Just for chuckles, I just removed the VLC package, deleted my vlc configuration file, and did a fresh install.
Still no video.
As previously mentioned, it worked prior to the RC 1 "upgrade."
to see if there are any module loading errors right at the beginning (try "vlc -vvv --list 2>&1 | less" if the output is too long and scrolls off your screen)
Alternatively, run vlc from the commandline when you play a video, like this:

So far "vlc -vvv --list" has reported,
Quote:

Running vlc from the command line resulted in this:

Yes, that is the result of the package having been compiled on Slackware 13.0. Nothing too serious, and I will start building for 13.1 anyway, soon.

That output is all normal (it is verbose output) but nothing that will inhibit video playback. The interesting output will appear once vlc loads and tries to play a file.
