Slackware64-current multilib: Pan-0.146 segfaults accessing group properties
Yes, I still use newsgroups.
Pan normally runs well, but when, from the Edit menu or via right-click, select 'Edit Selected Group's Preferences', pan will exit with segfault and no other explanation. Looks like,
Code:
$ gdb pan
...
Thread 1 "pan" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x00007ffff73699c4 in g_main_context_prepare () from /usr/lib64/libglib-2.0.so.0
...
I haven't found anything similar yet on their issue tracker. Asking here first to make sure it's not something odd on my end.
I have not be on USENET for ages. Well had to give it a go. Fired up Pan and loaded up a public server. Running from Konsole is see "Segmentation fault" when reproducing your steps.
Thread 1 "pan" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x00007ffff735b9c4 in g_main_context_prepare () from /usr/lib64/libglib-2.0.so.0
That was fun, while be spending some time on USENET now. Oh the memories.
glad you enjoyed the stroll down memory lane! Another issue cropped up. Are you able to post? see: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ix-4175677594/
I was hoping the patch from upstream would work, but unfortunately it doesn't. Now I'm wondering if those gnome-sih folkhave done something weird and nonstandard.
Hmm, no it seems I can't. I've been reading only. Tried to post on alt.testing.testing and a couple of groups I am subscribe to. Pan is telling me "Error: Bad email address". when I send. There is nothing wrong with my address. No the issue you been having. Perhaps I missed something in my setup but I don't think so.
Well, heck. I recompiled to try another fix for the posting isue, and now I no longer get a seqfault when accessing group properties. There have been a heap of updates to current since the last time PV compiles pan, so who knows? Marking as solved (for me!).
well, <pre-composted manure>, it WAS working...and now we are back to segfaults. weird. I now have a.o.l.slackware colored blue in in the subscribed group list, but no way to chage it again via pan GUI. I guess we are back to editing $HOME/.pan2/group-preferences.xml directly!
