Slackware64 14.2 live on Acer Aspire V-15 laptop

This thread is only being posted so someone can find it with the search. There is precious little information about using Linux and this laptop and most of that is sumbuntu or some other varient.

My wife has an Acer Aspire V-15 laptop and we wanted to see if linux would work on it.

On boot, F2 brings up the BIOS menu and I changed to legacy boot and then put USB FDD at the top of the list for boot choices. F10 to save the changes and reboot with Slackware64 14.2 live in the USB slot and it worked.
Used live for the password and selected XFCE. Was able to change the mouse to left-handed use BONUS - the touchpad is not working (I was going to disable it anyway). Next, created a text document and checked out the keyboard to satisfy me that it works. Finally it detected the wifi card and I connected to our wireless LAN and surfed the net with Firefox.

Went into the BIOS on the way out and changed back to Secure Boot UEFI. Finally I changed USB FDD to 4rth on the list like it was originally.

Hmm, my next computer is to replace my wife's laptop and I know now I can run Slackware on the one she is giving me. Will wipe Windows at that time (( ))

Why are you avoiding UEFI booting?

I ONLY wanted to see if the Slackware Live worked and if it would connect to my wifi. The wifi is the deal-breaker, not UEFI. When I end up with this laptop I will worry about the rest
