Yeah should work I believe. Boot up 64-Bit LiveDVD, mount your disk(s) in a suitable location, bind /dev, /proc and /sys. Chroot to your install. Do "the lilo thing".

IIRC, you may have problems to get kernels from older live media running on systems with a newer glibc, since the glibc can have some kind of "minimum requirements" for kernel versions compiled in.
