Slackware upgrade

Can I upgrade my Slack 9.1 system without an internetconnection using just the install isos without messing up my configuration? and is it worth the effort?

Write down the packages you already have installed, and just go down the list, using the command upgradepkg "package name". XFree86 isn't used in Slack 10 so you will need to remove its packages, and install the new X11xxx packages. You also need to copy your monitor and video card settings from the old XF86Config file to the new xorg.conf file.

Slack comes with upgrade instuctions (UPGRADE.TXT). I guess you could mount the isos and copy the contents to your harddrive. (I'm not sure what will happen if you upgrade glibc while the iso is mounted.)
Upgrading manually with upgradepkg can be done, just remember that new packages have been added to the Slack disksets. I think you could do a distupgrade with swaret or slapt-get after editing the config files so that they point to some directory on your filesystem.
Whatever you you, read the fine manual first, don't do anything rash.
