slackware store...?

I plan make a purchase in slackware store.
Bit surprised about some things there:
why distro discs is so pricey ( 50 USD) ?
I buy one piece, sure, for all my years on slackware and so on, but that price drop any interest to buy discs regularly. I Think, about 25 - 30 usd will be far more adequate price...?

Why so small number of variants of t-shirts, bumper stickers and so on?
Want to t-shirt "Linux Rulez Microsoft sucks", maybe also some "FidoNet" - but there is a lack of it...?

and so on...

The price of the disk set is not really reflecting the value of its content (because in fact, you can download it for free, yes?). The price tag is meant as a support token for the maintainer of Slackware Linux. As previously stated many times, the Store provides Pat's only source of income. People stop buying DVD/CD sets, Slackware may eventually die.

Furthermore, all merchandise is only Slackware related. A shirt with the message "Linux Rulez Microsoft sucks" is something you might want to produce in your basement, or buy from thinkgeek.com but not from the Slackware store.

Check out the subscription model for the DVD. If you subscribe, you will get a new DVD for every release, and it will cost $39.95 i.e. a lot less than the $ 50 for a single purchase. Same for the CD set.

I would like to echo what Eric said. I think it is important that we support Slackware so that Pat can continue to maintain the operating system that we enjoy. I have a subscription and I also buy shirts and other things from the Store. Slackware depends on us.

I've bought quite a bit of stuff from the Slackware store. The polo shirts, in particular, are excellent quality and good value for the money.

I also have a Slackware subscription. After the new version comes out, I donate the previous version to a local DAV thrift store hoping it finds a good home.

I've a DVD subscription and have purchased several of the t-shirt variants over the years. Seriously eyeing that polo shirt at the moment :) It is important to support the excellent distro that empowers me in all my digital needs atm.

Shirts, hats, even bottle openers with the Slackware logo. Looks like variety to me.

I would not want to use a system with that kind of fanboy attitude.

The purpose of "the store" is to raise funds for the continuation of Slackware. Thus, everything sold has the Slackware logo, not nebulous slogans referring to Linux in general or rude slogans insulting other operating systems.

A timely reminder for me - my Slackware T-shirts are getting a little threadbare!

chrisretusn 12-30-2014 04:40 AM

Gonna get me a polo I think. Been eying them for a while now.

For the OP... they sell those type of shirts on CafePress. I do not own one, not my forte

Apart from store.slackware.com there is also second official Slackware store at http://www.cafepress.com/volkerdi

True, but I wonder if the pricing was more closely related to the value of its content
if Pat's income would actually go up due to greater sales volume? What percentage
of the target market, like the OP, is affronted by a 1000% markup?

If the current marketing model of the disc sets is optimum, then the tee-shirts should
also be priced at $199.50. How many people would by them then?

I am not a marketer, so I do not know the correct answer, but I still wounder if a more
realistic markup would yield more money in Pat's pocket.

That is not an official Slackware store. It is Patrick's outlet mainly for people who want the Flippy Logo in print.

average_user 12-30-2014 08:12 AM

Yes, sure, I wasn't too precise. This is not an official Slackware store, but money you spend also there go directly to Patrick and Slackware development.

there may be a high price, but how many of us can pay this? in other hand, relative small, almost symbolic summ can afford almost anyone slackware user, who like this distro...

and MS make a good products?

Do you think, you personally, and your opinion is more valuable to me, than summ of Einstein, Feinman, and Wiener opinion?
Or it makes any sense for me? Looks like a boy thinking...
i say, and wear, who i need and think right. and i do not bother, who anyone think about it, or about me - especially take in account, a 80+ percent two-legged is, a softly said, not "very wise"...:D
