Slackware Source install problem...
 

I've been using Linux on my test system for a few months now, trying out several different distros. I needed one that I could use while going through my running linux, and multitool linux books so I can learn it.
So far I've tried RedHat 8, SuSE 8.1 Pro, Peanut 9, Vector 3.2, Yoper, Debian, and now Slackware 9. I've only had trouble installing Peanut (First install everything was fine, now it won't install right), and Vector was a little fun but got it working. Out of all the distros the 2 that I REALLY like is Debian and Slackware. So Slackware, thanks for a great OS. And dispite what everyone tells me I found it very easy to install.

Now comes to my question. I've install Slackware 9 3 times. It runs without any problems what so ever, however, it's not installing the source code, and possibly other things. Everything from what I can tell runs fine. I have /usr/src directory but I don't have /usr/src/linux all I have is /usr/src/rpm and all the directories are empty. Throughout the install, I never was asked if I wanted to install the source code, should I have?

Another interesting problem is I'm trying to figure out how iptables works, it's installed, but, the file libipt_DENY.so is missing. So who knows what else is missing. But it still stable as a rock. I'm amazed, but a little confused.

The kernel source isnt on the disc.

Get it from the /k directory of a slackware FTP.

Its a slack-pack, so install it like:

#installpkg kernelpackagename.tgz

sorry to be condescending, but some people dont know that.

for your IPtables problem, try running #ldconfig , or restarting, that may help.

Other than that, cant help you, i dont have much experience w/ IPtables ( i know, im a risk taker).
