It may lack the convenience of things like apt-get or system update, but Slack 9 is the only disto that I have used for 2-days straight without sleep, just configuring and tweaking. It's like a damn drug.
Don't forget eating and sleeping can help you stay alive :P

Thanks for all the help. I've been perusing the Slackware forum and I have to say this is a great source of information. Kudos to all those contributing. I've got my system running like I want - NFS, Samba, Apache, mysql, etc. Just need to install some addional things like evolution, mplayer.

Just a note, Dropline Gnome desktop for Slackware does have a Dropline Update Alert which will advise you of any new updates, download them for you, and update your packages.
