I run slack on my desktop computer
and I really like it's simplicity
I have new T61 and I'm having problems running slackware(12.1) on it
I installed ubuntu 8.04 on it and everything worked outside of the box
so I believe its doable
this is what I need from slack:
- wireless to work (I just couldn't get this to work)
- volume buttons to work with indication
- brightness buttons to work with indication
- hibernate
- card reader
- bluetooth
Please start by giving us the TP's type number which you find on the bottom of the laptop.
But you may already have enough information here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...on-t61-613095/
I wonder - did you ever try to find information? THe above URL is the very first hit in Google when I type "slackware t61".
In addition to the link Eric gave you, I would bookmark thinkwiki.org. It's been a great resource for my Thinkpads. Additionally, in the future, I recommend that you provide _much_ more detail in your initial post, e.g. specific number of the Thinkpad, specific video chipset, specific wireless chipset, etc. These things are needed for others to help you. Thinkpads, even of the same model, often come in various configurations.
Just try them out, if you wanna be an Slacker. ;-)

Eric
Those things in formerly types do be controlled through BIOS.
AFAIK, lenovo changed these things in recent types.

And I heard that ubuntu guys did some tricks on these iusses in ubuntu.
BTW: The second result from googling "slackware t61" is my post. :-)
