Slackware on a 17" Macbook Pro
Hello All,
I am interested in installing Slackware on a 17" MBP(8,3). Does anyone know if the current version of slack is compatible? |
Don't know but you might find this interesting:

Thanks for that, but that was with Ubuntu distro.

I thought there were only 13" and 15"
If really you mean a recent MacBook Pro your experience risks to be less than optimal. I'm considering buying one in the future because I very much like the Retina screen, but I'm not sure at all it will work with expected display resolution on Slackware or any other Linux distribution for the moment being. Most up to date info I've found so far is on ArchWiki and this article is only about small size MacBook Pro |
Well, you are right, the newer mbps are only 13 and 15 inch, but I have an older (early 2011) 17" unit. Ubuntu seems to support my model but I am not crazy about Ubuntu. I tried looking at Arch for my model but it does not seem to be there. Thanks for your effort though.

It's compatible, Slackware64-14.1 is working on my MacBook Pro 8.3 as part of a triple boot system (the other two being OS X Mavericks and Windows 8.1).

Thanks, I'll give it a try then.
