Slackware + MySQL

Hey,

Can anyone help me with the following prob:

i have slackware 9.0 installed, and cannot get the mysql server running. it is a clean install of mysql and i have run mysql_install_db. whenever i run safe_mysqld it reads the data files ok but 'ends'

my error file xxx.err and it says

mysqld started

/usr/libexec/mysqld: Can't find file './mysql/host.frm'

mysqld ended

yeah i don't have host.frm, what is it? what should go in it? i run mysqld as user 'mysql'.

You need to run mysql_install_db. I think it's in /usr/share/mysql.

Don't forget to run it as the user 'mysql' though, or you'll end up having to change the file/directory permissions manually so that MySQL can access it...

sudo -u mysql /usr/share/mysql/mysql_install_db

Hi Stuart,

I'd go ahead and compile it in, but there are advantages to having MySQL external to PHP (to be able to update MySQL without having to recompile PHP for instance).

What does your php.ini file look like?
