Slackware minimum system requirements still accurate?
Tried Slack years ago, I haven't kept up with latest developments. 13.0 sounds interesting, I have a spare machine.
One thing I'm wondering about is whether a portion of the Slackware website is still accurate: Quote:
1] I might be mistaken thinking that I heard Slackware dropped 486 support a few years ago; 2] Much of the general FAQs of the Slackware website discusses ancient topics like why the big jump from 4 to 7 (referring to versions of Slackware), y2k compatibility, no longer fitting on floppies, will there be an ISO release, and so forth. Lotsa cruft can be found there. |
It looks like Slackware 12.2 and newer won't install with 64mb of RAM, at least not with the regular installer.
http://alien.slackbook.org/blog/inst...with-64mb-ram/ Slackware is still compiled for i486, though |
Yes that information on the site certainly needs an update. (Yes it's on our list honest :) )
The info in Slackware-HOWTO is up-to-date. http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/slackw...lackware-HOWTO 486 Processors are still supported hence the "i486" arch in most of the packages (32-bit slackware). |
Thanks, peoples.
The links to the HOWTO and the slackbook site are very helpful. |
