Slackware minimum install with specific software

Hi guys

I'm new to the slackware thing and I'm here to tell you, I love it.
I only been working on it a few days and caught on really fast.
I have learned how to make packages with the .slackbuild file/command and install them.
I also got my wireless Broadcom 4318 wireless adapter working with no problem. I used only the latest firmware and WCID. Nothing less, nothing more.
Been reading on the forum for about a week and some things needs to be consolidated.
I have also followed these instructions here and got everything working but I need a GUI and lots of dependencies are missing to run the software below.

Computer Specs

Dell C610 Latitude

Pentium 3 1.0ghz
Sdram 1.0gb
30 GB HDD
Broadcom Wireless adapter
NEC USB 2.0 PCMCIA Card

I want a minimal install, but with the necessary software if possible using the latest versions.

1. Firefox
2. Thunderbird
3. Gimp
4. Smplayer
5. Openoffice
6. XFBurn
7. XFCE or LXDE/LXQT with LXDM
8. WICD

This would be my starter system and I could build from this point forward. This is all I want and all I need at the moment.

What I'm really asking is for you guys help, so I can build my Slackware ultimate system. Thanks

Keep it simple for a start. Do a full installation and leave out E, KDE and KDEI. Eventually, remove Seamonkey.

Here is a post that should be helpful. I think you can safely remove e/, f/, k/ (if you don't compile your own kernel or kernel modules), kde/, kdei/, t/, tcl/ and y/ (and xfce/ if you use lxdm). Install only what's needed from xap/. You most likely want to trim l/, this could take quite some time. I have a rather minimal install on my Raspberry Pi and slowly added packages when the programs I wanted to use errored out because of some missing library, which I then installed, and so on; at the end I created a template with my own package manager for reference, but slackpkg supports this, too. I have no experience with it, but there is a tool called sbbdep (packaged by Alien BOB) that you could use as well.

Why remove Seamonkey? I've found it to be quicker than FF and far less intrusive.

To me that looks awfully close to what MLED is offering out of the box. Yes, it might not be fully minimal but delivers this experience out of the box.

btw) If you want newer versions, you can opt to replicate the package set MLED is using for slackware current. Not very difficult as the tagfiles as well as the Slackbuild source are in his tree to look at.

You could also check out the list of installed packages on Salix, Slackel or Connochaetos.

I've done minimal installs in the past but it seems more recent versions the dependencies have gotten more complex. One recent example was when i had a web server running Apache that was terribly slow. I installed all of X and it started working normally, seems there was something in X that it wanted or something in a package in X that changed something elsewhere that made the difference.

Those issues are much more difficult to troubleshoot then something failing due to missing dependency.

I have an old laptop from that era and a full install if fine.
