Thumbs down Slackware main ftp site not reachable

The site ftp.slackware.com, which is hosted by the Open Source Lab of the Oregon State University, is currently unreachable by ftp or web browsers that use passive mode. This is true too for all three servers with the ftp.osuosl.org hostname.

I've already contacted them, but for now you will have to use other mirrors or switch off passive mode in your ftp program.

More and more mirrors are dropping support for FTP and switching to HTTP/HTTPS. Not all, but many are. Kernel.org dropped support for FTP recently.

Well I hope and guess that most people use mirrors. So that should be fine.

And as mralk3 about ftp, I use rsync mirror.

They seem to be working for me in Firefox now. I'm not sure if Firefox is using Passive Mode.

ping never was the problem. It was getting info BACK from the ftp server when the session was in passive mode.

But indeed, the server(s) seem to be working again, so the "unreachable by browser" only lasted for a bit more then one day.

I'll mark this chain as [Solved]

yeah that is the way it usually works, so if I ever get something like that I just wait it out, then go back and check it again for anything like slackbuilds etc...
