Question SlackWare Mail Server (Sendmail)

Ok..so I have sendmail installed in Slack 10.2 I am able to send mail from my slackbox but I can't receive any. I have my POP3 mail server enabled (i uncommented the line in /etc/inetd.conf)

Since I am quite new at this and after reading several posts sendmail is a good proggy to configure since it's well supported (IRC, forums and whatnot), BUT I am far from knowing sendmail well. At best I am able to substitute some values and at worst I can really break sendmail.

I know that I have a dynamic IP addy so most of my mail coming from my e-mail server will be considered spam. So, where EXACTLY do I change the line in SMART_HOSTS so I can use my ISP's smtp server to send e-mail? my isp btw is comcast (no other provider in my area but I have no choice).

Also where EXACTLY do I need to look at in a POP3 e-mail server configuration to make sure my slack box is receiving messages from anyone? BTW, where the devil is this configuration script...

Further, I have a domain registered. Say... hello.com
In my slack10.2 e-mail server i have several users: one two, three and four. And the host name assigned to that particular slack box (I have 4 boxes running slack 10.2)= DRUID . The other boxes are for a webserver, workstation, ftp server and testing environment.

So... how can someone just send e-mail to one@hello.com instead of one@druid.hello.com ? I have seen it many times where one can just e-mail ppl like billygates@drone.com for example.

As you can see I am a complete newbie on the subject and I am just setting up a mail server so I don't have to pay any more $$ than I have to. As of right now, it's a test mail server, but I hope to make it fully operational once it's properly configured with spamassasin or other similar proggy. I am willing to put in the hours to make this work so please...share your thoughts.

Any input, criticisms are MOST welcome. Please let me know where I can go for more information or pour a cup of half-and-half knowledge (spoonfed info + RTFM + google).

Cheers,

Biledaemon

Check out Shilo's site and sticky. He does a good job telling exactly what you need to do.

This thread is EIGHT years old. It is against the LQ etiquette to re-open threads that are long dead. You can create your own new thread for your question, referring to the old thread if you want.
Perfect way to get ignored, this.

Well, except you didn't ignore it.
