Slackware Kernel upgrade
Once I install Slackware 10.1 - I can't seem to find the correct way to upgrade the kernel. I don't think Slack uses a package manager like Fedora or Debian but there has to be a way to install 2.6.11 on a new version of Slack. I did a search and everything I found seemed to be a bit dated and did not answer my question.

Download the kernel sources from www.kernel.org and extract it to /usr/linux-2.x.y, then copy over the old config from the old kernel source directory, compile the new kernel and install it. ;) (Assuming that you know how to compile and install a kernel. There's a sticky on top of this forum to compile 2.6 kernels. Be sure to read it) http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=127095 Or you could use the 2.6 kernel provided in the Slackware install CD itself. Regards. |

Is there no way to use a more recent stable kernel like 2.6.10 or 2.6.11 for Slackware?
I am actually going to install Slack tonight. |
Another method is to install the 2.6 kernel from the second Slackware CD (preferebly from current so it's the most updated 2.6)

I downloaded Slackware 10.1 6 months ago. If I download Slackware 10.1 again, will it have a newer version kernel? |
