Depends where you get it, and how they pour it. Guinness I used to get in the "old man" pubs in Galway was out of this world.

I dunno, I just was never much for Stouts. I do like dark ales, but yea not into Stout beer. Plus I think the meme of Guinness is probably true, it is practically like eating a meal when you drink it.

Guinness is only the first course. There's always room for chips and burgers afterwards.

Down your way, like here, there are many different types. I find the draft Guinness to be the least satisfying, but Original is great. Foreign Extra, on the other hand, is incredible. Then, if you can get hold of it, there's Guinness Antwerpen, which is godly.

Care to name same of your favourites?

I don't know much about Guinness in bottle, but it seems draft Guinness (in Pub) does not travel well. I drunk it in Ireland and elsewhere, this is not the exact same thing.

The "West Indies Porter" is pretty good as a I recall, but yes the draught is rarely any good outside of Ireland. I've had many good pints in Cork and Dublin, but that was a good few years ago. Supermarket cans of draught is getting weaker though.

For me though, it has to be Polish lager every time...

Ah yes, the West Indies Porter is very decent too. The draught I always find weak and watery, but I've never had it in Ireland.

Now I can comment 'in situ' - Zywiec and Tyskie I both had when I was in Poland, and I enjoyed them. I don't know that much about Polish lager though, so recommendations are always welcome. Seeing as we get quite a lot of Poles over here, there's a fair bit of Polish beer in the local shops.

Yes you have to get to the local corner shops. It's usually better and cheaper than the commercially brewed big name crap you find in supermarkets. But of course in London, where you pay more for everything, may not be the case.

I'm a "recent convert" and I have never been to Poland. Most beer gives me terrible acid reflux and headaches as I'm sensitive/intolerant to certain additives in most drinks and processed foods, but I recently found that Zubr, Zywiec and Perla go down very well and are some of the best beer I've had in years.

Warka, Lech and Tyskie aren't that bad either, but it's hard to get real Polish brewed Tyskie over here - the "brewed under licence" stuff is everywhere and just isn't good at all.

I suppose it's all a matter of taste, I recently treated my in laws to some Zywiec and it was obvious that they found it particularly terrible. (Luckily I had a backup store of Corona Extra, which they absolutely loved of course...)

The friend who I went to Poland with would concur. When we were there we spent most of the afternoons and evenings drinking either Zywiec or Tyskie [I think on the second day I had 4-8 pints, I can't remember], but we both woke up the next day with no hangover whatsoever [and he's far more sensitive to this stuff than I am].

Back in the 2000s, another friend of mine absolutely swore by Corona, but that, along with Sol, I never 'got'. My formative experiences in beer indulgence were over in Holland and Belgium, which is a different type of beer altogether than that which they do in the Latin areas of the world.

I'm not a huge fan of Zubr, but I've never tried Perla, so I'll give it a go this evening.

Which is where? I assume you're somewhere in Europe [unless you're just up early].

They're from those "areas of the world", hence why stuff like Corona or Sol is most likely "beer" for them - yuck.

There are quite a few different variants of Perla, I think I've only tried one and it was ok. Zubr is acquired taste. It took me quite a few attempts to actually like it, now it and Zywiec are my joint favourites.
