To backup a CD, is best to make copies of it, if you do not want to store the *.iso file.
I find Verbatim - Metal AZO disk the best quality so far. Mitsubishi Chemicals produce the disk for Verbatim. So, if you can get Mitsubishi Chemicals (Metal AZO) it is the same thing at a lower price.
To check your *.iso file is okay, you can use md5sum checker. In Slackware (linux) just issue the following command (pwd at your *.iso folder)
md5sum slackware-9.1-install-d1.iso
wait (it depends on the speed of your computer and harddisk. Then it will generate a hexadecimal number. Compare the number with the number I provide below. If it match, that means it is correct. If it does not match, that means it is corrupted.
In Windows, you can google for a free md5sum prog.
Below is the md5sum of each Slackware 0.1 cd.
