slackware installation with hdd from another comp

installed slackware on a hdd which i put in a IBM ThinkPad, because my cdrom is not bootable (i got some trogon laptop 233, 80RAM).
then i took the hdd out and put it in my laptop

lilo went fine, but i then i got some error message and i had options: Ctrl+D or password for root. so i logged in and i started typing something when it suddenly started showing looots of tables of mem addresses or something (many screens). then it stopped and i got some error message which i can't exactly remember. i rebooted and i got another error message, i'll try to write it here:
after hdb: attatched ide-cdrom driver.
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer deference at virtual address 00000000
printing eip:
c1138120
*pde=000000000
Oops:0002
CPU: 0
EIP: 0010:[<c1138120>] Not tained
EFLAGS: 00010282
eax: c11ef1c54 ebx etccccc

aftere about 8 lines of nrs:
Code: 01 03 00 00 01 00 00 00 38 f7 32 c0 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
[at this point the sistem crashed]

and theen my sister came and started hitting the keyboard (all of it) and the console showed some
Mem-info:
Free pages: 76880Kb (0kB HighMem)
[more nrs]
Free swap: 0kB.

that's about it..

any help is more than welcome

Thumbs up oh, another error!

[3rd boot]
so, i got home and turned on the laptop. the same Ctrl+D/root message appeared, i logged on and then something happened quite quick. the system unmounted some filesystems and then rebooted.

[4th boot]
while it was counting the memory, i pressed Pause two times. a fatal error showed up.

[5th boot]
it loaded lilo just fine, and then blank, with Caps lock and Num Lock i think blinking.

dear friends, you are witnessing the fall of a very old computer.

[6th boot]
same RAM ERROR AT LOCATION 050014.

this may not be a linux error at all.
did i mention i was getting loots of sudden interrupts of all programs (on my debian distro) and messages: hda: lost interrupt.. this was when i first did the hdd switching with debian. (worked swell)

well, if anyone has any ideas i'd be more than glad to hear them i have some few of my own but they require a hammer and a cutter for the tape that keep this thing from falling apart.

[7th boot]
finally, last boot i shall post
lilo loads fine, oh, i see messages of linux starting, and same error with Ctrl+d asking me to f*ck

and a different set of (only half screen) the same error messages as boot #2, (Oops:0002 and stuff,Stacks: <many hexas>Call Trace: [many hexas again]) only slightly less info. i think.

any hints on how to fix this?

did you try booting from the bootdisk? boot from the slack floppies and then take a look at the lilo.conf and see if the vga=normal is set. If you can boot from the cd "bare.i root=/dev/hda[your root here] noinitrd ro" without problems it is a boot or drive error. plus the distro on the hard drive is probably trying to load a bunch of shitake that is not present on that pc.

Lightbulb a better description :)

no

it is quite an old laptop

it is all covered in tape, not to fall apart, the lcd is partially dark, the keyboard is very sticky and you need to 'feel' the buttons, mouse pad makes strange noises, battery dead (out of the question), hdd sometimes working, memory hardly working, proc heating very fast (the fan was upside down for a few years) so you have to keep it on two books to make space (it must breathe), pcmcia slot ... partially there , infrared port NOT working, some malformed com ports in the rear, cdrom half busted (about 1cd / 2 nights), floppy completely busted, bios not loading cdrom etcccc. i intend to put a wireless pcmcia card and run it with linux
oh, right, it's like an old tracktor, you have to press the power button soft or it will reboot instead of stopping. mabye that's what is killing the hdd.. used to have functional sound card.

I suggest you turn it into a doorstop.

Cheers
